Long weekends

Whether you’re enroute to the Kruger National Park, West Coast Langebaan, the Garden Route or just around the corner, there’s no shortage of fun things to do over the long weekend. Sometimes you don’t need to go very far to have the best time. Long weekends are always fun!

Be a tourist in your own city
You can’t always afford to travel, and that’s why staycations are the best. Look at your city with fresh eyes. Most of the major cities in South Africa now have guided bus tours. Use these to find hidden gems in your city, or visit a place you never would have normally. There’s so much to do, you just have to find it.

Road trip
Nothing is more memorable than a road trip. A road trip with friends is even better. It could be just a day trip out of the city, or a 2-night trip somewhere close by. Stop along the trip and take pictures. A road trip is not how quick you can get to a destination, but how much fun you can have getting there. Enjoy the scenery and just chill. Go with the flow. Be spontaneous. Tips for a great road trip are:

  • Friends
  • Snacks
  • Drinks - don’t forget to pack your Lipton Ice Tea in the cooler bag
  • Music
  • Sunglasses and a camera

Now you’re all set! Have fun.

Plan a hike and a picnic. It doesn’t have to be a marathon hike, but just getting a little active in nature before you have your picnic can get the endorphins going! Try a hiking trail that leads to a waterfall for some epic scenery and a chance to cool off. Find a spot to set up at the end of your trail and enjoy your picnic with a view. Long weekends can be anything you want it to be. Don’t be restrictive, but do get the most out of it.
