When enjoyed as a tea we think it’s as a sure fire way to shake off any excess stress and unwind. Well, we say ‘tea’… technically this daisy-like flower isn’t a tea at all—it’s a naturally caffeine free herb that boasts a sweetly floral flavour and comes from the same family of plants as sunflowers, Echinacea and marigolds. Due to being naturally caffeine free and packed full of sweetly calming flavours, we think our camomile herbal tea infusion is just about the perfect addition to the night time ‘winding-down’ routine. A soothing sip to help settle the spirit after a busy day and prime body and mind for a trip to the land of nod. Smart phone off, PJs on, cup of camomile in hand and daisy scented dreams of sunshine incoming. Gosh, we’re getting sleepy already…
That being said, we don’t think you should just relegate this delicious herbal infusion to the latter half of the day to help you switch off. Camomile has a very slightly sweet and floral flavour, with light earthy undertones, that work terrifically well when paired with savoury dishes that err on the side of sweet. Think a delicious salmon fillet baked in a sweet honey dressing, or a fresh crunchy salad speckled with little sweet raisins.
Getting the best from your brew
Camomile benefits from a good long soak in some freshly boiled water to really get its lovely relaxing flavours to unfold. The best herbal teas like an infusion time of around 4-5 minutes, that’ll allow the water turn a bright golden colour with good clarity.
