Here are tips and tricks to help bring positivity and happiness into your life.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

With all the bad news around us on social media and the TV, one can’t help but be pessimistic and feel anxious all the time. Here are tips and tricks to help bring positivity and happiness into your life.

How many times in your life has someone asked you to “stay positive” or “hey, look on the bright side!”? We’ve all received that well-meaning advice at one point in our lives but most of us find it hard to be positive when anxiety, uncertainty, and valid threats seem to be everywhere around us, lately. As humans, our brains are programmed to look for and recognize threats as a sort of defense mechanism, but what happens when this innate survival technique hinders you from having an optimistic outlook on life? While some days can be quite challenging, if we know one thing for sure, every day is a gift and is special in its unique way so live it to the fullest. Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Write a gratitude journal. Every day, list 5 things you’re grateful for. Whether it’s the presence of someone special in your life or the simple joy of smelling coffee in the morning, write down 5 things you’re thankful for.

  2. Surround yourself with positivity. Let it be your friends, your work environment, or even your office desk, make sure everything you look at brings you happy vibes. Stay away from toxic relationships and pessimists who bring you down.

  3. Rewire your brain. Surely, this will take a lot of hard work and training to achieve, but training your mind to focus on the good in every situation could be the best thing you could do for your own good.

  4. Mute your judgemental voice. You know that negative voice in the background that’s telling you that you can’t do this or you look too fat in that? Yeah, get rid of it. We all have a constantly running soundtrack of self-talk in our head that is doing more harm than good. Carefully listen to what you tell yourself and be gentle.

  5. Accept it and take action. Whatever it is that’s bothering you, acknowledge its existence, see it for what it is, grieve about if need be, and let it go or take action to turn a negative situation into a positive one.

  6. Take care of yourself. Put yourself first. Focus on boosting your well-being and practice self-care. Be mindful of the food you feed your body and the thoughts you feed your brain. Exercise more, laugh harder, take long breaks, meditate, and breathe.

  7. Do good to receive good. Helping other people can actually make you feel good about yourself. If you haven’t been feeling useful lately, reach out to someone in need, whether it’s a friend, a family member, or a complete stranger in the street.

  8. Do more of what you love. Love listening to music? Blast your radio every morning. Enjoy walking your dog? Make an exercise routine out of it. By doing more of what you love, even the hardest of situations will seem temporary.
