Anise seeds come from the plant Pimpinella Anisum which oddly enough is from the same family of carrots, celery, and parsley. That may not be so strange if you consider the nutritional value this plant holds. It is rich in iron which is responsible for the production of healthy blood cells in your body and can give you a small magnesium and protein boost if taken in adequate amounts. If that isn't enough to impress you with Anise seeds, you should also know that it has long been considered a powerful remedy for depression.
Ancient cultures believed this, but modern studies have provided some scientific proof that it is so. The Journal of Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine, in 2016, found that 200 mg of Anise oil, 3 times a day, significantly reduces the symptoms of mild to moderate depression. That is why it could be a good idea to find a variety of ways to increase its intake in your daily diet. Drinking Lipton Anise Tea would be an easy and delicious route to achieve this, but here is an extra and yummy way that can help you reach that goal as well.
1. 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
2. 4 Lipton Anise Tea Teabags
3. 2 tsp. baking powder
4. 1 cup unsalted butter (melted)
5. 1 cup sugar
6. 1 tsp. vanilla extract
7. 1 egg
8. Confectionery sugar for coating and sprinkling
1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. grease or line a large baking sheet with parchment paper
2. Steep 4 teabags of Lipton Anise tea in a 1/4 cup of boiling water for 10 mins. Remove tea bags and set aside
2. Mix together the flour, anise concentrated water and baking powder
3. Cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy and then add the vanilla extract and egg and continue to beat until blended fully together.
4. Combine both mixtures together in one bowl until fully blended into one
5. Sprinkle flour onto the area where you will need the combined mixture dough. Roll dough onto the flour sprinkled surface with 1/4 inch thickness and cut with a round 3-inch cookie cutter, and shape them into crescents, placing each crescent one inch apart on the prepared baking tray.
6. Bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until browned, in the preheated oven. Remove from the oven and let them cool on the tray for 5 minutes before placing them on the cooling rack.
7. Dust with confectionery sugar to taste.
