Forget about the quick fixes and the fad diets, support your body’s innate detoxification system by following these five easy steps.

With our busy office lives, we often tend to neglect our health and wellbeing to save time or money. Sugar-loaded drinks are now cheaper than water, chemically enhanced foods are more available than organic produce, and junk food gets delivered quicker than prepping a meal at home. Our hectic lives have forced us to neglect the most important thing we have, our bodies. Our immune systems are getting weaker and our body’s innate detox systems are working overtime to get rid of the toxins we consume on a daily basis. Luckily though, with this quarantine especially, we are asked to slow down. We are given the gift of time to effectively focus on bettering our lives and bodies, inside out. Here are five healthy methods to jumpstart your body’s natural detoxification routine.

  1. Cut your sugar intake. While a lot of people replace sugar with healthier alternatives like stevia and honey, sugar is quite addictive. If you suffer from a sweet-tooth, reducing your sugar intake will curb your sweet cravings and hunger pangs.

  2. Drink plenty of water. Staying hydrated is the key to healthy living. While drinking water does miracles to your skin, it also helps your body get rid of toxins faster, improves cell function and metabolism, and keeps you fuller for longer.

  3. Get your tea fix. Teas are full of antioxidants and polyphenols that detoxify cell-damaging free radicals in the body. Tea has about eight to ten times the polyphenols found in fruits and vegetables. Whether you like black, green, or herbal tea, teas also keep you hydrated and energized.

  4. Move it. Whether you’re a hardcore cardio fan or a power yogi in the making, find a way to move your body on a daily basis. Hate exercise? Turn this movement into something you enjoy doing. Dance, walk, take the stairs, whatever it is you do, make sure you incorporate movement into your daily routine. Exercising regularly encourages circulation in the blood and lymph system. Doing so will also enhance digestion, reduce tension, lubricate joints, and strengthen your body.

  5. Hit the sauna. Contrary to popular belief, sweating is your friend. Our bodies eliminate certain toxins through sweat. By regularly visiting a sauna, you’re actually helping your body get rid of toxins, boost your immune system, recover your muscle strength, and overall enhance your body functions. Just make sure you’re always well hydrated and well-rested before you visit the spa.
