Dr. Guy Winch, Ph.D., is a licensed psychologist, author and keynote speaker, who is a leading advocate for integrating the science of emotional health into our daily lives, workplaces and educational system.

He has spent much of his career providing young people with actionable steps to improve their emotional wellbeing. According to Dr Guy Winch emotional wellbeing is just as crucial as physical health, and loneliness is damaging to both.

Now, he has partnered with Lipton to introduce 15 minutes of quality connection as a smart metric for fighting hidden loneliness. He argues spending time to connect with someone on a deeper level can have a great impact on our emotional and physical health.

Lipton has partnered with Dr.Guy Winch to conduct behavioral study in which he designed a series of interventions to enable genuine connections. The purpose of this research is to understand in-depth, the effect and impact that applying these interventions can have on people. The conversation enablers with more potential to enable quality connections were the following:

1. Share your feelings about something meaningful currently going on in your life

2. Share your hopes and thoughts about the future and ask about theirs

3. Reminisce, bring up memories about your mutual past

Friendship Bench® is an evidence-based intervention to enhance mental well-being and improve quality of life through the use of problem solving therapy, delivered by trained lay health workers.

Lipton is pleased to partner with Friendship Bench®, because we believe every one should have someone to open up to.

Together, in August 2019 we have started our pilot program by bringing peer to peer mental health support to our employees and their families of the ekaterra Tea Estate of Kericho, Kenya.
