Our Kericho estate is home 40,000 residents, with over 5,500 permanent workers and several thousand temporary workers joining them in peak season. We ensure that conditions they live and work in are some of the best, offering free solar-powered housing and clean water to all our Kericho workers and their families.
Plus, we have 2 community hospitals, 4 health centers and 23 dispensaries, providing on-site medical care. In 2006, our Lipton estate won a prize for its HIV/AIDS program.
For over 5,500 workers’ families on our Lipton estates in Kenya, we provide nursery, primary and secondary school education.
We also ensure that our employees are educated with regular training programs at our Farmer Field Schools. Globally, 86,000 of our lead farmers (including around 42,000 women) have attended these schools to help set best agricultural practices, improve quality and increase yield.
Plus, we’ve helped nearly 560,000 small farmers in Kenya gain Rainforest Alliance certification – with Kericho being the first tea plantation in the world to get this certification back in 2007.
Lipton and WE are working together to empower 80,000 women and their families in Kenyan tea-farming communities. When you choose Lipton, you show your support for the programs that provide female tea farmers with access to empowerment tools (including financial and business skills training), helping them grow the money they earn and become leaders in their communities.
The fastest route to progress is through collaboration. We’ve partnered with startups Litterati and Playmob to help clean up the planet with the latest technology.
Through Litterati, we launched a three-week clean up challenge in the Netherlands. The goal was to bring small groups of people together to collect litter. This grew to 500 volunteers picking up 51,565 pieces of litter across Arnhem. As a result, we identified several litter hotspots and kicked off a conversation amongst local industries, communities and governments to take further action. Playmob is a mini-game piloted in Europe that teaches people about the environment. Together, Lipton and Playmob will use data-led insights to change how we use plastic in the future. The interaction of the gamers will help shape Lipton’s next steps..

Here at Lipton, we’re committed to helping the environment. But we can’t do it alone. We’ve teamed up with our suppliers to help take recycling to the next level.
We’re rethinking plastic use with the help of Loop™ and Ioniqa Technologies. These companies use innovative technology to turn waste plastic into rPET and ‘virgin-quality’ materials.
Our parent company Unilever has also developed a breakthrough recycling process called CreaSolv® to help reduce plastic sachet waste. Currently, billions of sachets end up in landfill each year. With CreaSolv®, they can be transformed into new types of packaging.
Lipton is part of the Unilever group. Unilever’s purpose is simple but clear – to make sustainable living commonplace. Unilever has committed itself to making all of its plastic packaging fully reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. Unilever is also working to increase the amount of recycled material used in its packaging.
Through its Sustainable Living Plan, Unilever has changed the way we source materials, create packaging and manage waste. And it’s creating new technology that lets you see what’s inside your favourite products.
Lipton Ice Tea is part of the PepsiCo group. In 2006, PepsiCo launched its Winning with Purpose plan. This initiative includes a commitment to make all of PepsiCo’s plastic packaging fully reusable, recyclable or compostable by 2025. PepsiCo is also working to increase the amount of recycled material used in its plastic packaging and to boost recycling rates through its partnership with the PepsiCo Foundation.
