You’re more likely to associate turmeric with your kitchen spice rack than your tea cup. As a staple of curries, soups and even smoothies, Turmeric has been used in traditional Asian cooking and holistic medicine for thousands of years. Yet recently, Turmeric has reached superfood status in the West, in everything from food, beverages and beauty products - including glorious turmeric tea!


The first thing you notice about turmeric is the color – the second is the taste! Turmeric spice comes from a curcumin-rich root that has been finely ground into a golden-orange powder. It’s enjoyed for its earthy taste and traditionally recognized for its restorative benefits. In fact, many people have nicknamed it a ‘super spice’. No wonder, that turmeric tea has been popping up on everyone’s radar. Indeed, many cafes now sell the acclaimed turmeric golden milk lattes and some folk are even brewing it at home.

To get the most out of your turmeric tea, it’s best to set aside a few minutes to make it. But that’s all part of your unwinding process! Just let your tea bag sit for 4-6 minutes in freshly boiled water – that way, the spicy richness can really come through. 

Turmeric also lends itself well to being enjoyed iced! For a cooler take, simply pour four cups of boiling water over two bags in a heat proof pitcher and leave for three to five minutes. Remove the tea bags and sweeten taste. Stir in six cups of ice cubes until melted or use four cups of cold water. Add freshly cut lemon or orange slices for some citrus zing. Then keep in the fridge to sip and enjoy all day long. As an added bonus, it’s the perfect drink to give guests on a hot summer’s day in the garden.
