Our teas are date stamped for your convenience. Tea shelf life varies by the type of tea. Most of our teas, including Black, Iced Tea Brew, Cold Brew Tea, Herbal, Black Flavored Teas, Earl Grey and English Breakfast, can be enjoyed up to 18 months from the production date. For Powdered Iced Tea Mix, we recommend a maximum shelf life of 12 months from the production date. Lipton bottles includes a  date on the cap for your convenience.

To understand the manufacturing codes found on all other packages of tea bags and powdered mixes  Look at the number and letter combination on the box. The first number is the year, the next letter is the month and the next two numbers are the day of the month.

Use this guide for the months  A - January  E - May X - September B - February F - June J - October C - March G - July K - November D - April H - August L - December, 4J24 is October 24, 2004. No, green tea is not caffeine-free.  A brewed cup of Green tea has slightly less caffeine than a brewed cup of black tea (45 milligrams vs. 55 milligrams).  However, caffeine content of either black or green tea depends on the preparation method, brewing time, the amount of tea leaves used, and the size of the tea bags.

We don’t recommend re-using your tea bags.  Our tea bags are meant for a single use and will yield the proper flavor and color when following the directions on the box.

Lipton teas are easy to brew and usually take less than 5 minutes to prepare.

Herbal teas generally do not have caffeine because they are not made from traditional tea leaves.  They typically include leaves, flowers, bark, seeds, stems or roots from a wide variety of plants. Lipton herbal teas are special blends of natural grain, fruit flavors and sweet spices, leaves, flowers and roots.

We have committed that by 2020 all our food raw materials will be produced using sustainable crop practices, minimizing the use of pesticides through integrated pest management techniques, and with due care for the environment and the livelihood of farmers. This includes both a pesticide residue standard and the ability to trace raw materials across our entire supply chain. Under our Sustainable Agriculture Code, we work with suppliers and farmers to minimize the use of pesticides.

In addition, we collaborate with a range of independent certification schemes for sustainable agricultural practices such as the Rainforest Alliance, Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil, Roundtable for Sustainable Soy, Fair Trade and Bonsucro.

Minimizing use of pesticides is always a requirement. We monitor the presence of pesticide residues in the raw materials that we purchase and we take action with our suppliers to ensure that the ingredients continue to meet the regulations in force. We are constantly reviewing our pesticide approach and practices in light of new scientific evidence and societal concerns here.

Tea helps maintain health and hydration. To help maintain hydration and health nutrition experts from the Institute of Medicine determined that an adequate intake (AI) for women is approximately 9 cups (2.2 L) of fluids every day and for men is approximately 13 cups (3.0 L) of fluids every day.1,2 Since tea without added sugar or milk is 99.5 per cent water, it can count towards your fluid intake for the day - plus it tastes great!

It’s a common perception that tea, or other drinks containing caffeine, have a diuretic effect, which means causes higher frequency of urination and will lower your body’s hydration level.  However, research shows that the levels of caffeine in regularly consumed amounts of tea do not lead to dehydration, and in fact the fluid in tea contributes to hydration.

Lipton black tea bags have a new look with 40% less packaging than previously.  We are dedicated to our Sustainable Living Plan to reduce our environmental footprint and use biodegradable materials.  The packaging is also meant to be sturdier and lock in freshness with Stay Fresh tea trays.

*Envelopes can still be found in wholesale club retailers and on our smaller 20ct sized boxes
