Green tea is definitely good for you, but is it really better than other teas? And what are all these different types of tea, anyway?

What’s the difference between types of tea?

Green tea, black tea and white tea are all from the same plant: camellia sinensis. All these  types of tea may be the same plant but they taste, smell, look and feel different. The difference lies in harvesting and processing. Black tea leaves are fully oxidised after harvesting, which gives them their dark colour. Green tea is steamed or pan-fired to halt oxidisation. To produce Matcha Green Tea, the tea bushes are shaded for some time before harvesting, then steamed and finally stone-ground into a fine matcha powder.

Processing matters because it can affect the caffeine content and levels of flavonoids in your tea. Black tea tends to be a little higher in caffeine. Most types of green tea are higher in the type of flavonoid known as catechin ECGC, which can offer lots of health benefits. If you want all the benefits of healthy green tea with the added boost of caffeine, try Lipton Matcha Green Tea.

Are there different green tea types?

There are different types of green tea, which mainly differ based on where they are grown and how they are processed. Try Lipton Pure Green Tea and Lipton Matcha Green Tea for a taste of different green teas to decide on the best green tea for you.

How to make the best green tea

The best green tea is made with water that is not quite boiling, so let your water cool slightly to approximately 85 degrees celsius before adding Lipton Green Tea. Steep for 2-3 minutes. You can add sweetener if you like, but if you’re drinking green tea for weight loss then keep it zero calories with no sweetener.
